You Would NOT Believe…

Today I called the TV repair guy. Again. After calling him yesterday and leaving a message. We were supposed to be able to pick our TV up Monday or Tuesday. I actually got to speak to him today and do you know what he told me? Of course you don’t so I’ll tell you what he told me. He told me that the part that was supposed to arrive on Friday, be put in on Saturday after which the TV would be run all day to make sure it worked IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!! WHAAAAAT? This television is only 1 1/2 years old and the part that we are talking about is the main board that controls everything. How in the heck does Samsung expect to keep selling televisions if they discontinue the core of a television that is only a year and a half old? Luckily I recieved this news after Samsung customer service hours or some poor soul would have gotten an earful from me. As it is I am fit to be tied and it’s been a couple of hours since I found out. The TV repair guy is gonna hunt around to see if he can find one anywhere but it’s not looking like I’ll have our TV back for season premieres. Or ever for that matter. I’m so mad I could SPIT!

Yes, I Am A Weather Wimp

Filed under: Really Random Mommy Musings, Random Mommy Musings, Mommy Life — The Mommy @ 5:20 am

It is widely documented that I have a 10 degree comfort zone. If it’s between 68 and 78 degrees, I am just fine, thank you very much. Any lower and I break out a sweater (thank you Hashimoto’s). Any higher and I am uncomfortable and bordering on grumpy. Needless to say, with temps in the 90s here lately, there has been a bit of grumpiness. Thank God we bought a portable air conditioner last year or Tater Tot and I would have been living in the air conditioned grocery store down the street this week!

Thankfully, the forecast says it’s supposed to be in the mid-70s today. Well within my weather wimp-ey comfort zone. Hey, this is why we live in Southern California as opposed to Northern California or some other state that has weather extremes. Of course we pay for that privilege but…we’re happy here.

Best of all, Tater Tot has been letting me put a fan in her room the past two nights so I don’t worry as much about her when I put her to sleep. And now with the temps cooling down, she won’t wake up all sweaty and cranky from her nap! What a bonus!

Weather is one of the reasons we moved back down to Southern California from Northern California. “Why?” you ask. “The San Francisco area has quite nice weather.” you say. No, no, no. San Francisco is not Northern California. We lived waaaaay up in Northern California. It seems so odd to me that people think that SF is NorCal when it’s really CentralCal. We lived far enough up in CA that we were almost in Oregon. It rained. A LOT. It was cold. A LOT. The ocean never gets above 55 degrees even in the summer. Surfing is done in 5mm wetsuits with booties, hoods, gloves, thermal rash guards and any other concoction of warmth-inducing paraphernalia you can cook up! We once surfed in 45 degree water when it was 45 degrees outside. Ouch! Can you say “ice cream headache”? I used to know it was time to get out of the water when I couldn’t feel my feet anymore. When I’d go to take my booties off, my hand muscles wouldn’t work well enough to pull them down over my ankles. Brrrrr. Give me 70 degree water any day! Not that I’ve been getting in it any time recently…

Mommy Goes To Class

Filed under: Random Mommy Musings, Mommy Life, Mommy Body — The Mommy @ 8:44 pm

I just got back from my first Pilates class and I can already tell that I am going to be sore for a very long time! I always feel okay the day after a hard workout but then, the second day, it slams me. I know that taking class only once a week pretty much insures that I’ll be sore every week but it was the only class that was after Tater Tot goes to bed! It’s just easier right now if I’m around to put her to bed. So maybe I’ll do a Pilates DVD a couple more times during the week so I’m not starting at ground zero again every week. Huh. Fat chance! That’s why I signed up for this class…because I don’t DO my Pilates DVDs! But, anyway, it was good. I liked it. I didn’t feel like a total dork. Amazing. It was nice to get out of the house in the evening as well. It seems like I hardly leave the house after 4pm any more! It turns out that there’s this Mexican restaurant right across the street from the rec center and I was tempted to stop for a margarita but I didn’t. Maybe some other night I will. I remember when I used to meet friends for drinks on a hot summer night. Not anymore!

It’s less hot here tonight, which is nice. I can actually sleep upstairs in my bedroom instead of downstairs with the air conditioner. Imagine that. I think I’m going to go do that since my brain and my body both seem to be mush right now. Can’t. Form. Interesting. Sentence. Must. Sleep.

IT’S HOT

Filed under: Random Mommy Musings, Mommy Life — The Mommy @ 5:58 am

Duh, Mommy. Yeah, it’s roasting here and it’s only 5:50am. Blech. I am not going one more summer without air conditioning. It only gets this bad one month out of the year but how MISERABLE am I for that one month? So incredibly miserable you can’t believe it. It’s supposed to be 87 degrees again today at the coast. Since we’re a couple miles inland, it’ll get to 90 no problem. And the Tater Tot can’t/won’t sleep downstairs so she’s basically sleeping in a sauna. I’ve tried putting a fan in her room but it freaks her out. :( So my new goal for the year is to save enough money for air conditioning by next summer. That’s like saying I’m going to get blood from a turnip because you can’t save what you don’t have but I will find a way. Except I won’t sell my Tiffany’s jewelry. I draw the line at the jewelry.
Luckily it’s going to cool down a couple of degrees a day this week so, by week’s end, we might even be comfortable again.

Hey, if you want to help me get air conditioning, check out the stores on your right! They’ve got some really cute stuff for you, your little ones, and gifts for all kinds of occasions!

I’m going to go get The Tot up now so we can go sweat together…
